World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
